Merry Singing

Good singing, excellent company and lots of tasty food. Obviously a quire of good cooks as well as musicians.

This rehearsal was certainly a good way to end the year and thanks to Bryan and Edna for turning over their home for this rehearsal. Sadly a few members were unable to make it, they were missed and in our thoughts.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Christmas is coming

An enjoyable afternoon singing many of the Christmas Carols and some new songs and tunes for 2018.

Tea and cake but no mince pies.

Sunday 12 November 2017

Pleased to help.

Reg

As a thank you for the care given to him by the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital our quire member Reg asked us to perform a fund raiser towards a MRI Scanner Appeal. The Unitarian Church kindly allowed us to perform in their wonderful building and the hospitals League of Friends put on fantastic refreshments which included great cakes.

The evening was well attended and the audience very appreciative, the quire sang brilliantly and the village band were tighter than ever and were joined by Mike a member of the audience who had come with his violin, Mike's sight reading was spot on and a great addition to the band.

A lot of money is needed for this scanner and the quire was pleased to help.

Bringing in the crowds

Our next event is being advertised around Shrewsbury, great poster so fingers crossed for a good turnout as it is a money raiser for the hospital.

Wellington Festival

The hard work paid off! The quire performed for an hour and a half to a respectable sized audience on a wet Autumnal Wednesday evening and they were an appreciative crowd shouting 'Shame and Ahhh' when we announced we were about to sing our last tune. Sadly like 'The Musical Lovers' we had no encore.

The Village Band also performed several pieces from the John Moore song book and had the audience clapping along, there was even talk of dancing.

We made a recording of the whole evening and I have to say I have enjoyed listening to it twice in 24 hours, good to hear the whole quire from front of house rather than from my usual position in the Bass line up on the back row.

All Saints Church Wellington.

Almost Perfection

Sunday Bryan, the music director, sorted all the wrinkles we had at St John's Methodist Church.
The quire is now all ready for The Wellington Festival.

Tea and cake were well earned.

Band also sorted and Peter playing all the introductions to the pieces helped with the timing.

Harvest Moon

After a week of Harvest Moons the quire entertained the good people of St Johns on a wet evening before sitting down to a harvest supper.

The Quire sang the program that will be used at the Wellington Festival in a weeks time,
there are a few wrinkles to be ironed out at the rehearsal next weekend but overall all went well.

The Harvest Supper was great! Thank you St Johns.

Dotting the i's and crossing the t's

The quires last chance to get the music spot on before the St Johns performance, some members were still on holiday and we will have only one tenor at St Johns but all will be OK on the night, of this we are assured by our director of music.

The band was grouped as for the performance and played very well, unfortunately our accordion player had to leave early so the sound was a little thin.

Tea and Cake, need you ask?

Only one tenor! what's the betting he will still be asked to sing a little quieter, so no worries there.

Tuesday 29 August 2017

Was it us?

Another great rehearsal to polish our numbers for the forthcoming gigs. Helped along by the usual irresistible cake.

At the start of the rehearsal the sun was out and it promised a warm summer afternoon, by the end it was wet and dreary like an autumn Sunday, trust it was not down to the quire's singing.

Tuesday 20 June 2017

Fire and Brimstone

On one of Britain's hottest days the Quire sweltered their way through numerous tunes. A depleted  tenor and soprano section, two in each, a strong alto and bass section had us all working hard to either be loud or quiet.

Tea and cake were very welcome.

No band this week as many were away.

Monday 22 May 2017

Harmonious Sunday

New songs new tunes, lots of fun and of course wonderful harmonies at today's rehearsal.

The band played two new tunes ready for the Wellington Festival.

Tea and Cake? As always.

Monday 8 May 2017

Hail the Month of Maying

Two Quire members got married at Shrewsbury in the Unitarian Church.

They kindly invited all of the quire and asked for songs to be sung.

Never turning down a chance to sing, especially with refreshments added the quire turned up in force and sung as suggested by Charles Wesley (mentioned in a previous post),

Congratulations to the happy couple from the quire members.

The happy duet Soprano and Tenor.

followed by the rest of the quire looking forward to a resounding performance.

Tuesday 2 May 2017

Lustily with Good Courage

At todays rehearsal The Quire sang the way that John Wesley suggested "sing lustily and with good courage" and they sure did.

So much so there was little time to eat all of the cake.

Wednesday 5 April 2017

Melodious Spring

The Sopranos

The first rehearsal of Spring had the quire learning more new tunes and singing old favourites with a renewed spring in their step.

Cake and a cupa? Of course.

Thursday 23 March 2017

Joys and sorrows

Almost a full turnout of Quire members and all in good voice. It was fantastic to see the return of a bass member after fighting a long term illness and also welcome a new member in the Alto section.

The quire opened by singing beautifully the wonderful Gibraltar in memory of  a member who had recently passed away.

In good voice the songs for the May wedding were tackled before the customary cake and a cupa.

The Village Band gets better and better, The symphony in Old Foster sounded amazing, well done The Village Band.

Tuesday 21 February 2017

No Procrastinating

The Quire's music director wasted no time and plunged the quire into 3 new songs, steep learning curve but wonderful tunes which all the members enjoyed. A great vocal and mental workout.

Old favourites with enthusiastic playing of the symphonies by the band were also part of todays rehearsal.

A new band tune also.  Busy day.

There was also no procrastinating when it came to cupa time. Cake went down well but that's nothing new.

Monday 16 January 2017

A New Year, New Songs, New Members.

The first rehearsal in 2017 was a great start to a new year, most of the singers and band were there on a very wet winters day and new members swelled the ranks.

Four new songs were sung with lots of enthusiasm and gusto, a very enjoyable rehearsal.

.

As usual the Quire were well rewarded with a cupa and cake.

By the look of the empty plates non of the Quire members seem to be worried about an after Christmas diet.
